I
am thankful for the $99 I receive per month in food stamps and the struggle it
took for me to receive them because it showed me a fraction of what those with
financial constraints experience.
I
am thankful for the cute little house I rent this year, my roommate who
encourages me, and her dog Bella who has become my cuddle buddy and adopted
niece. I worried for months about where I would live in Charleston
I
am thankful that I decided to do things that scare me this year. Hence why I am
now a part of the Lunch Buddy program at a local elementary school and meet
twice monthly with a third grader. Great practice being outside my comfort
zone.
I
am thankful for the people over the past year and three months who have adopted
me into their families. It is difficult being far from home and I couldn’t
begin to repay their kindness.
I
am thankful for my parents that drove all the way to Charleston Vista
thing my own way.
I
am thankful for the HuluPlus subscription at our house that has
given me access to shows I somehow missed…and for the people that put up with
my ramblings about these shows.
I
am thankful to work with such an amazing staff and the 25 VISTAs who moved here
to alleviate poverty in a community not their own.
I
am thankful for my friends and family’s patience. It was my decision to make
our relationship a long-distance one and I thank you for your continued
support.
I
am thankful to work in this gloriously historic city so close to the beach. And
for all the amazing restaurants. Especially that bakery across the street with
the amazing blondie brownies.
I
am thankful that a year and three months ago I took the plunge. I don’t regret
taking the AmeriCorps*VISTA oath to serve. I have learned so much and met so many great
people.
So,
I am filled with nothing but gratitude today in Charleston
